18K French Victorian Onyx Intaglio Viscount/Viscountess Monogram JL/LJ Locket Ring

A rare precious French piece of history, featuring an 18k gold Victorian c.1900 onyx intaglio locket ring, hallmarked.

The intaglio features a 3 point and smaller 2 point coronet, signifying that the ring belonged to a Viscount/Viscountess. Beneath the coronet, is a monogram "JL/LJ" monogram - see picture in gallery of the intaglio seal on putty to see the imprint.

The ring face/locket measures 12mm x 15mm height.

The front opens up, revealing a hidden locket with its original bezel frame and glass cover, in great condition. This would not have been a poison ring, as there are bezel frames and the glass cover, which reveals that it was used exclusively as a locket.

It would have been used as a wax seal ring, and occasionally, whenever the Viscount/Viscountess missed his/her family or loved one, the wearer could open the locket to reminisce.

It is an all original ring and not a conversion piece.

The ring is hallmarked on the back of the outer shank with the French eagle head for 18k gold, and is a US 6 and sizable, fits like a US 5.5, and weighs 5.49 grams.
