18K & Silver Victorian Diamond & Ruby Star Vinaigrette Locket

A beautiful Victorian c.1870-1890 vinaigrette locket, modelled in 18k gold & silver, with beautiful rose cut diamonds and cabochon rubies and pearls. It is love at first sight with this locket!

It features two star motifs, one on the star bail, and the other draws inspiration from the Celtic eternity knot star featured on the locket. It is complemented with black enamel on the edges of the locket as well as cabochon rubies. The black enamel is all intact and is just gorgeous!

There are approx. 0.95ct of diamonds by spread, and 0.90ct rubies, with a total weight of 1.85ctw. It is sourced from France. It is hallmarked with the French owl head hallmark on the bail as well as on the inner locket. The second hallmark is located on the inside of the locket at the bottom edge near the hinge.

The reverse of the locket is beautifully engraved with astonishing hand carved details resembling that of vines and fleur de lis flower patterns. It is just a work of art that truly features the expert craftsmanship of antique pieces.

It opens up to reveal a locket compartment that comes with its original bezel and frosted domed glass panel. The locket can be worn with or without the glass panel; For example, to use it as a vinaigrette locket, you can put a scented cloth or cotton wool with perfume, and use it without the glass panel. If you would like to store precious mementos inside, you can put the glass panel in. This makes it a very versatile piece.

This is truly one of the best lockets we've had the pleasure to encounter. It is remarkable in all areas of design, quality, construction, and uniqueness and is certainly an excellent heirloom worthy piece.

It measures 25mm x 38mm with bail, 25mm x 25mm without bail, and weighs 15.76 grams.
