18K Georgian Enamel Dog, Heart & Angel Poison Ring

$2,830
Item Details

A breathtaking Georgian c.1820-1830 enamel poison ring with a hidden compartment, modelled in 18k gold and hallmarked.

It is an absolute rare ring and one of a kind, featuring an interesting motif of an adorable dog with a heart shield on it's back in enamel.

The shoulders of the ring is further decorated with repousse details of two angels on each side, and more detailed swirl patterns to the back of the band. The repousse detailing would have been hammered by hand from the underside to create the impressions; A very remarkable feat requiring expert craftsmanship. To create such patterns with this technique, the band of the ring is hollow on the inside.

The term 'poison ring' is derived from its hidden compartment, which opens up to reveal a secret compartment. It is very rare to see one in such amazing condition for its age of almost 200 years old, and it opens and closes well. In addition, the enamel is all intact with no wear to the enamel.

It is hallmarked '18' on the inside of the locket compartment for 18k gold.

The locket compartment measures 10.8mm x 7.5mm height.

It is a US 11.5 and not sizable, and weighs 2.16 grams.

This is a rare and collectible piece of history that is in great antique condition from the Georgian era and would make a perfect gift for yourself or your partner.
