18K & Platinum Art Deco Diamond Roman Numeral Date Brooch c.1928

A wonderful French Art Deco roman numeral date brooch, dated for c.1928 with "MCMXXVIII" which translates to 1928.

This is no doubt a custom commission, possibly to commemorate a special anniversary year or special moment. The middle section features a "XX" monogram. We also wondered why specifically the middle “XX” had a different font from the rest. This gave us a clue that the “XX” which translates to 20, refers to a 20th year anniversary on the year 1928.

Hence this is a brooch to commemorate a 20th anniversary in 1928! It is truly such a special piece when decoded in this manner.

It is set in 18k gold and platinum, hallmarked with the French eagle head (18k gold) and dog head (platinum), both on the back of the brooch and on the pin.

It is detailed with delicate milgrain detailing throughout the edges of the letters on the monogram, further adding to the slight shimmers of the tiny rose cut diamonds that adorn the brooch.

There are approx. 0.59ctw by spread of diamonds, and they are open-backed.

It measures 35mm x 19mm height, and weighs 6.45 grams.

This brooch would be an excellent gift to a loved one as a gift as it holds so much meaning and history.
