18K French Georgian Marriage Token Double Portrait Miniature Locket with Heart Padlock

A rare sentimental French marriage love token, modelled in 18k gold, from the Georgian c.1790-1800 era suspended with a love heart padlock that can be opened and closed.

There are three chains that connects to the top of the bail, with a 25mm drop, suspending a locket that houses two original portrait miniatures of a gorgeous couple. The male wears a blue silk coat, and the lady a pink silk dress, and in between them an original turquoise blue silk cloth. The bottom of the locket is secured with a heart padlock that joins the two together in union and matrimony.

The locket measures 28mm x 36mm height, and the heart padlock 10mm x 4mm height.

It is a wonderful and fine example of a well preserved piece of history.
