14K & Silver Victorian Diamond & Opal Star Pendant

A one of a kind large statement piece, featuring a stunning Victorian c.1880-1890 opal and diamond star pendant, crafted in 14k gold and silver.

It is set with collet set old European cut diamonds and cabochon opals, with open-back settings to allow maximum light to pass through for a brilliant sparkle. There are 2.16ct diamonds by spread, 2.82ct opals, with a total weight of approx. 4.98ctw.

It comes with a hidden bail at the back so that it may be worn as a pendant. This is original to the piece and is not a recent addition. The hidden bail is also hand-engraved and marked with a serial number by the original maker of this piece; Well made pieces that were made by expert jewellers were often hand marked with an inventory number back in the day.

We have never come across an opal star like this before in our years of collecting. Firstly, opal stars are not often set with diamonds - many are found set with just opals on its own, or paired with tiny seed pearls. This piece is set with brilliant old European cut diamonds. Secondly, the size of this star is significant and large at 44mm across! It surely is a gorgeous statement piece.

This is a rare and valuable piece of star jewellery dating to the late Victorian period and turn of the 20th century, and it is in excellent and highly collectible condition.

It measures 44mm across, and weighs 17.16 grams.
