18K & Silver Victorian Diamond & Opal Crowned Double Heart Brooch-Pendant (With Detachable Brooch Pin)

$9,055
Item Details

An exceptional Victorian c.1880-1890 crowned double heart brooch-pendant, modelled in 18k gold & silver.

It is set with two incredible solid Australian heart opals, 1.33ct each, with the most insane play of colour, flashing vivid tones of blue, green, yellow and red. The two hearts are tied together by a bow set with rose cut diamonds, and the hearts further surrounded by rose cut diamonds 1.30ct by spread, with a total weight of approx. 3.96ctw. It represents the union and coming together of two hearts, sealed by love represented by the bow.

The very special feature about this piece is that the brooch pin is detachable. A hidden bail has been expertly added at the back seamlessly, so that the brooch can also be worn as a pendant with the brooch pin detached, making it a versatile and convertible two-way piece. The brooch opens and closes well and is in excellent condition.

This is one of the most stunning examples of double heart pieces we have come across, with the opal and diamond variety being a very rare and highly sought after piece by double heart and crowned heart collectors.

It is also extremely rare to come across an original antique piece that comes with a removable pin fixture, that retains its original detachable brooch pin, which double functions as a pendant. It is a wonderful example of expert antique craftsmanship of the Victorian era.

It measures 23mm x 21mm height, and weighs 6.95 grams.
