18K French Victorian Sardonyx Monogram CH/HC Spinner Fob Pendant

A charming French Victorian c.1860-1880 sardonyx (onyx with a white top) spinner fob pendant crafted in 18k gold, with the monogram "CH/HC", hallmarked.

The fob spins around, and features a beautiful ornate frame with a swirled design, with further rope detailing framing the sardonyx to the front and back of the piece.

It features the monogram "CH" or "HC", we have included an inverted image of the monogram in the second picture in the picture gallery. This is how it would look when stamped on a wax seal. This fob would have been originally worn on the end of a lorgnette chain, or on a watch chain, and be used as a decorative yet functional piece of jewellery. The fob would have been used to seal letters and correspondences which would have been it an essential piece of item to the wearer.

Today, it can be worn as a pendant on a chain worn on its own, or layered with other pendants. It is hallmarked on the bail with the French eagle head hallmark for 18k gold. It is in excellent condition.

It measures 21mm x 29mm height, and weighs 6.73 grams.
