18K & Silver Victorian Diamond & Opal Crescent Ring

Opal dreams are made of these...A jaw-dropping gorgeous Victorian c.1890 Australian opal & rose cut diamond crescent ring, modelled in 18k gold and silver. As these are crystal opals, meaning they are higher in water content, and are slightly translucent, which allows for more light to pass through the opals that results in an intense fire & colour play seen in the opals. This is particularly true when it is worn on the finger, with the finger acting as a background "base" for the opals to have depth, much like "foiled diamonds" of the past when foiling would be added behind diamonds to create depth.

The crescent was a brooch, and has been converted beautifully into a wearable ring on a thick classic band ring in 18k gold. It is currently a US 7.5 and sizable. The crescent is accented with smaller rose cut diamonds on the inner of the crescent. Both the opals and rose cut diamonds are open-backed, so it can be washed.

It is rare to find antique opal crescents, much less those that are the perfect size to be made and worn as a ring (most are great sizes as pendants, some are smaller such as those on stick pins). It would make a fabulous addition to any beloved crescent collection that will be loved and cherished for years to come.
