14K Victorian Sapphire, Ruby & Pearl Crescent Brooch

A gorgeous and one of a kind Victorian c.1890-1900 crescent brooch, set with sapphires, ruby and pearl and crafted in 14k gold.

It features a large cushion cut cornflower (likely synthetic) sapphire in the middle approx. 2.04ct, along with a sapphire 0.10ct, ruby 0.10ct, and a pearl, with a total weight of 2.24ctw. The crescent's body is intricately detailed with lace-like engravings.

The large sapphire in the middle of the crescent could represent the Halley’s comet flying through the night sky, which is then represented by the crescent. The Halley’s comet and crescent motif was a very popular design as interests’ and discoveries in Astronomy grew.

The brooch opens and closes well, and comes with a lever safety clasp for added security. It is a true statement piece and was sourced from Germany and European in origin.

It measures 34mm across, and weighs 8.36 grams.

Note: Any dark marks seen on the brooch are reflections from the lighting during photography, the brooch is in great condition.
