15K English Victorian Engraved Double Sided Hairwork Locket

A sweet English Victorian c.1840-1850 gold locket with engraved floral and foliate work, crafted in 15k (15ct) gold.

The locket opens up and reveals an encased glass compartment in the middle, which swivels out revealing a double sided sentimental hairwork piece.

On one side, it showcases a wheat sheaf, and on the reverse, it showcases a Prince of Wales hairwork curl, complete with gold wire and seed pearls.

It is a precious piece with all parts intact. The bail is faceted and is original to the locket, and it opens and closes well. The condition of the locket is appropriate to is age, with some general surface wear - its structural integrity is intact.

It measures 21.5mm x 40mm with bail, 21.5mm x 28mm without bail, and weighs 8.35 grams.
