14K Dutch Victorian Engraved Monogram AvW with Hidden Compartment Poison Ring c.1861

A stunning Dutch Victorian c.1861 ring with monogram "AvW", with a secret hidden compartment on reverse, crafted in 14k gold and hallmarked.

The ring has beautiful and ornately decorated shoulders, with hand engraved foliate acanthus leaf accents and a milgrain scalloped edge.

There is a hidden compartment on reverse, with a date engraving of "24 Juni 1861" in Dutch, which translates to 24 June 1861. The panel lifts up to reveal a locket opening which can be used to store a precious photo or painting inside. It opens and closes well. The term 'poison ring' is derived from its hidden compartment.

It is hallmarked with the Dutch oak leaf hallmark for 14k gold on both the locket panel, as well as on the outer band of the ring at the back. It is Dutch in origin and sourced from the Netherlands.

This is a rare and collectible piece of history that is in great antique condition and would make a perfect gift for yourself or your partner.

The ring face measures 12.3mm x 8.3mm height.

It is a US 11 and not sizable, and weighs 3.50 grams.
