14K German Biedermeier Diamond & Pearl Flower Locket-Brooch
A sweet and elegant German Biedermeier c.1840-1860 flower locket-brooch, modelled in 14k gold. The brooch pin has a maker's mark.
The locket has a stunning design, featuring floral artwork surrounding the frame in tri-gold. The leaves are green gold, the flowers are rose gold, and the locket is yellow bloomed gold.
A big and chunky rose cut diamond is in the middle, approx. 0.45ctw by spread, in a buttercup setting, accompanied by four pearls on each side. The reverse of the locket reveals a glass frame, that opens and closes well. It also has a brooch pin which allows the piece to be worn as a pendant or brooch.
The brooch pin has a built-in protective cover on the side, which prevents the pin from poking the skin when worn, a really useful function!
It is in wonderful condition, and the bloomed satin-matte gold gives it a rich yellow patina that is just stunning.
It measures 28mm x 61mm with bail, 28mm x 47mm without bail, and weighs 9.51 grams.
Note: It is rather hard to photograph matte gold jewellery under studio lighting. Marks may be seen from reflections of the lighting and are dust particles, and the locket is in wonderful condition.
