18K European Victorian/Edwardian Diamond & Ruby Monogram AP/PA Plique A Jour Enamel Pendant
A stunning Victorian to Edwardian c.1900-1910 diamond and ruby monogram "AP/PA" pendant, modelled in 18k gold, with beautiful old European cut and rose cut diamonds, rubies, exquisite plique-à-jour enamel and a pearl drop.
This pendant is remarkably special, featuring a gorgeous stylised "AP/PA" monogram surrounded by vibrant ruby accents, sparkling diamonds and translucent plique-à-jour enamel. The combination of gemstones and enamel creates an incredibly intricate and jewel-like appearance, with the plique-à-jour enamel allowing light to pass through the piece beautifully.
The monogram is adorned with approx. 1.55ct of rubies and 2.55ct of diamonds by spread, comprising of 0.45ct of old European cut diamonds and 2.10ct of rose cut diamonds, with a total weight of 4.10ctw. The old European cut diamonds provide beautiful sparkle, complemented by the softer, romantic glimmer of the rose cuts, while the vivid rubies add gorgeous flashes of colour throughout the design. A lovely pearl drop completes the pendant, adding a delicate and elegant finishing touch.
The piece originally came with badly reconstructed opaque enamel work which did not do justice to the beauty of the original design. We carefully removed the existing enamel and have had the plique-à-jour enamel painstakingly redone in gorgeous shades of pink and blue, bringing the piece back to life with a beautiful translucent glow. The plique-à-jour enamel allows light to pass through the enamel like miniature stained glass, creating a particularly enchanting effect when viewed against the light. The soft pink and blue hues complement the vivid rubies and sparkling diamonds beautifully, giving this antique jewel a wonderful combination of colour and sparkle.
This gorgeous pendant is sourced from Europe and is a wonderful example of European Victorian to Edwardian monogram jewellery. The substantial weight of the piece further reflects the quality and intricate construction of this antique jewel.
A truly beautiful monogram piece, remarkable for its combination of diamonds, rubies, plique-à-jour enamel and pearl. Its intricate design, unusual combination of materials and expert restoration make it a wonderful heirloom worthy piece, rich in history, craftsmanship and antique charm.
It measures 42mm x 42mm for the plaque, 62.5mm from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pearl drop, with the monogram measuring 21.6mm x 21.6mm, and weighs 22.48 grams.
