18K & Silver Victorian Diamond Onyx Coronet Crown Monogram HR/RH Locket
A stunning and exceptional large Victorian era c.1870-1880 locket, modelled in 18k gold and silver. The locket is made of onyx, and on the front is decorated with a crowned motif of a 5 point coronet, signifying the title of Earl (English term), Count (European term) /Countess, and would have belonged to someone of nobility. Beneath the crown, features a monogram set with rose cut diamonds, of "HR/RH".
The bail is made in gold and black enamel, and can fit a substantial chain with its wide inner width.
The interior of the locket retains both of its original gold bezel inserts, as well as original glass covers, which is a rarity, as glass covers are often lost or broken over time.
A well-rounded and wonderful example of nobility monogram pieces, and is in excellent condition. This locket would make a fine heirloom worthy piece as it is in near pristine condition, with no visible marks or wear to the enamel and onyx.
It measures 31mm x 56mm with bail, 31mm x 42mm without bail, and weighs a substantial 27.89 grams.
Note: Any marks seen on the pictures are from reflection & dust particles taken during photography. The locket is in excellent condition.
