18K & Silver Victorian Diamond & Opal Crowned Heart Ring
An absolutely stunning and precious Victorian c.1890-1900 crowned opal heart diamond ring, crafted in 18k gold and silver.
It features a cabochon opal heart 1.50ct, surrounded by rose cut diamonds 1.20ct by spread, with a total weight of approx. 2.70ctw. The heart is framed by a bow on top, also known as a 'crowned heart'; The bow on top of the heart signifying the union of the heart and they were often given as engagement rings from grooms to their betrothed.
This is a particularly lovely example with a bright and fiery opal with an amazing play of colour, with bright and stunning flashes of greens, blues, and red.
It was a brooch that has been converted masterfully into a wearable ring with a custom fitted heart gallery, converted by master jeweller Gaetano Chiavetta. It was likely originally a ring, and then made into a brooch at the turn of the 20th century, and we have transformed it back into a ring.
The ring face measures 15mm x 22mm height, and it is a US 7 and sizable.
It weighs 6.28 grams.
