18K & Silver Victorian Flemish Belgian Diamond Cross Pendant
A particularly rare and well preserved Victorian c.1850 Flemish diamond cross pendant, complete with its original flower or star bail on the top, modelled in 18k gold and silver.
Flemish cross of such designs are from Belgium, and were typically reserved for the wealthy, given its significant size and weight, showing status, wealth and devotion.
The diamonds are rose cut diamonds, and are foiled and closed back, weighing an approx. 3.96ctw by spread.
The bail has a hidden bail where a velvet or silk ribbon can be strung across, or a substantial silver or gold chain with a wide width can be worn (up to 7mm wide), to be paired and worn together. It is a fabulous statement piece, and an important part of Flemish history in Belgium.
It measures 45mm x 75mm with bail, and 45mm x 55mm without bail, and weighs 14.68 grams.
Note: Please note that as the diamonds are foiled, it is advisable that the piece does not get wet or exposed to water. It can be gently cleaned by wiping it down with a wrung out damp cloth.
