18K Victorian Art Nouveau Diamond Cherubs Brooch, Locket & Detachable Necklace
A very beautiful Victorian Art Nouveau c.1900 brooch and locket with detachable necklace, modelled in rich and matte bloomed gold, modelled in 18k gold. The brooch is made with artistic renditions of tendrils and poppy pods with a old European cut diamond set in the center approx. 0.25ct.
There is two main cherubs depicted on the locket, with very beautiful details to the piece in the background. If you look carefully there is even one more baby cherub in the background. It retains its two original bezel inserts in the locket.
Such a technique is called repousse, which involves hammering by hand, on the reverse side of the gold, hammering into detail the cherubs faces, foreground and background. Such high level of detail cannot be achieved with machine made jewellery today.
Additionally, there are two original bloomed gold stations on the back of the brooch which can be used to attach an additional chain which allows it to be worn as a necklace. We have custom made a 9k gold necklace in 16" length, with two spring ring clasps on each ends of the chain, so it can be attached and detached onto the chain to transform it into a wearable brooch to necklace piece, without altering the original piece in any way.
A beautiful turn of the century piece in excellent collectable condition.
The brooch measures 38mm x 19mm height, and the locket measures 31mm x 40mm with bail, 31mm x 31mm without bail. It weighs 11.67 grams in total.
