18K Victorian Diamond & Opal Star Crescent Brooch

An ethereally gorgeous Victorian c.1880-1890 diamond & opal star crescent brooch and crafted in 18k gold.

This is one of the best examples we've come across that combines two celestial elements perfectly; The crescent and the star. It is set with approx. 3.94ct solid Australian opals, featuring a wonderful chunky center old mine cut diamond 0.25ct, and further accented by rose cut diamonds 0.12ct by spread, with a total weight of 4.34ctw.

As these are solid Australian crystal opals, they are higher in water content and are slightly translucent, and in combination with its open-backed setting, allows for more light to pass through the opals, resulting in an intense fire & colour play seen in the opals. All stones are present with no missing stones.

The brooch is offered in wonderful excellent conditon, it opens and closes well and retains its original lever clasp for added security. 

The crescent star measures 19.5mm across, and the brooch length is 51.8mm. It weighs 6.52 grams.

It is rare to find antique opal crescents, that are in a suitable size to be made as a ring, or even as a smaller pendant. A majority of antique opal crescents are too large to be made as a ring. In addition, this beautiful piece combines two wonderful motifs of the crescent and the star, with deep celestial symbolism. It would make a fabulous addition to any beloved crescent collection that will be loved and cherished for years to come.
